“You have to look for the beauty. In everything…”

“You have to look for the beauty. In everything. In every moment. And everyone.” Vivienne Westwood

This is one of my favourite quotes from the new Vivienne Westwood autobiography. This hefty, hardback tome pays homage to one of Britain’s most successful fashion designers and exports, Vivienne Westwood. Penned by Westwood and biographer, Ian Kelly, the book tracks her life from her idyllic childhood in Derbyshire, to becoming to teacher, mother and grand-mother, grand madame of Punk, world renowned fashion designer and political activist.

“You have to be your best self. That’s part of the story I want to tell. Be your best self and follow your conscience.” Vivienne Westwood

Throughout her life she was brave and bold. There were times when she struggled as a lone parent, bringing up two young sons in central London whilst working as a full-time teacher. Yet despite the tough times she stuck to her ideals, worked incredibly hard, followed her instinct and forged her own path.

An interesting, insightful, inspiring read.
