Heysham is perhaps better known for its power station than the pretty little village that sits by the sea. We visited last year and discovered the whole village in bloom. Overlooking the Irish Sea is the peaceful graveyard belonging to St Peters Church. It was there we discovered the headstone of a grave belonging to Sarah Hannah Jones. She passed away over a hundred years ago, in 1909, aged just 44 but what was fascinating were the words inscribed in the stone ‘poet, philosopher and failure’. A quick search on Google reveals that other people are intrigued by this lady’s life. Was she really a failed creative or someone with a good sense of humour? Nobody seems to know.
