St Annes Pier landing jetty

This sea worn structure caught my eye. It is the remains of St Annes Pier’s landing jetty. St Annes Pier was completed in 1885 and today still stands and operates choc-full of amusements, however this little weather beaten section stands alone.

It was once part of the pier but after a couple of fires, one in the 70’s and another in the 80’s, it was decided that the seaward end of the pier would be demolished. Following protests the local council concluded that the final 150 feet (46 m) should be retained to protect the character of the pier, so the remains of the ruined landing jetty still exist.
