Sun, rain, cloud, wind, rain, some more rain. What better weather to visit an art gallery? Richard Long’s work is currently on display at the Whitworth Art Gallery, Manchester.
I imagine the pioneering land artist would be outside working whatever the weather. He came to international attention in the late 1960’s, through his 1967 work A Line Made By Walking. Since then he has made sculptures during his many walks. He is showing two stone sculptures at the Whitworth alongside two text works.
My son found his work very inspiring when we saw it at the Hepworth Gallery last year. The gallery assistant invited him to make his own creation using grey lino tiles that had been cut up into smaller pieces.
The Whitworth Art Gallery is currently being extended with two new wings which will take the gallery into the park. Work is due for completion in 2014, for more information on the project take a look at their Gallery in the Park blog.
