I am really excited as I am in the process of setting up a weekly after school art and craft club for primary school aged children in my area. I hope I can use some of the ideas from this inspiring arts and crafts book. Each art project takes its lead from a piece of world famous art, explaining a little about the artwork and giving some background information on the artist with a simple project to follow.
You can see here The Sorrows of The King by Henri Matisse. The author talks about the painting, so its easy to understand and tells us a little about Matisse and why he liked to ‘draw with scissors’ to create a collage.
The book then shows you how to make a colourful Matisse inspired collage using coloured paper, scissors and glue. The Usborne Art Treasury also includes paintings by and projects inspired by Pablo Picasso, Vincent van Gogh, Paul Klee, Claude Monet, Damien Hirst and many more.
This book offers an exciting introduction to art for children using basic art materials which can be picked up cheaply. Even if you don’t make all the projects it’s a lovely book to read and explore.
