A cool new vintage toys, games and collectables shop has landed in Preston. Respawned opened nine weeks ago stocking all manner of Star Wars, Dr Who, Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings, Power Rangers and Marvel and DC Comics goodies. Urged on by my seven year old son I went to find out more.
Paul Jepson started collecting, buying and selling in collectable toys and games twenty years ago.
“It was always a sideline,” he says. “I am a plasterer by trade, I started off with megadrives and went from there doing car boot sales and markets. I built up my knowledge as I went along.”
Respawned is packed to the ceiling with toys and collectables from Star Wars, Dr Who, Lord of the Rings, Batman, Thunderbirds, Ben 10 and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Paul has also stocked his shop with film related memorabilia including figures from the Matrix, Hellboy, Halloween and Texas Chainsaw Massacre. It is a treasure trove for any film or television fan. As well as selling Paul also buys and exchanges toys and video games, he is always on the look out for something old and exciting.
“Even with new sets of figures there will always be something collectable,” explains Paul. “There is always one figure which is hard to find, making the full set very desirable.”
The shop also stocks old fashioned board games, including a game of Scrabble from 1949 and a card game called PIT from the 1930’s. The shop stocks board games pre-1970’s.
“At one point I had Monopoly from the 1930’s, 40’s, 50’s, 60’s and 70’s,” says Paul. He also sells retro video games and specialises in figures from the world of wrestling, with nearly 1,000 figures in stock.
Items range from a few pounds for a toy to £350 for an exclusive limited edition Lion-O from Thundercats.
“A lot of the items here are from my own collection. I once had the Corgi original Eagle from Space 1999. I liked it, looked at it and sold it. I get excited when I find something exclusive,” he says, “and the shop gives me a good excuse to get really cool stuff.”
